Rich. Creamy. Eggnoggy. It’s Christmas in a mug, and it’s coming at you in 10 minutes - without the need for dairy or eggs. At our house, we are loving this eggless eggnog so much that we’ve been keeping a big jarful in the fridge, at the ready for our next nog urge. Kids really love it, too (the virgin version, of course).
It’s true, this egg nog has no egg. Did you know eggnog traditionally does? That’s right, that eggnog Aunt Betsy brings to the holiday celebrations is likely the traditional egg yolk + whipped egg white + heavy cream + milk concoction. Um, yeah.
Well, this version doesn’t include any of that, nor does it have a ton of sugar, yet it has that sweet, creamy nutmeg eggnog vibe, so warm, cozy, and comforting on a cold winter’s night. You only need five ingredients + salt + optional bourbon & vegan whipped cream and 10 minutes to get this going. No soaking nuts in advance, just gather the ingredients, put them together, heat them up, and you’re ready to rock around the Christmas tree!
Simple ingredients are all you need: oat or other plant milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, vanilla, bourbon & vegan whipped cream.
It’s so easy to make this eggnog that you can keep a jarful going in the fridge all season long without much effort. Try adding it to your coffee!
Vegan Egg Nog in 10 Minutes
vegan • quick • easy • gluten-free • nondairy • eggless • holiday • crowd-pleaser • 10 minutes or less
prep time: 5 minutes
cook time: 5 minutes
total time: 10 minutes
Servings: Four 8-ounce servings
Note: It is really nice to keep a batch on-hand in the fridge.⠀Simply put all the ingredients minus the bourbon & whipped cream together in a jar and refrigerate until ready. It should be good in the fridge for up to a week, if it ever lasts that long.
1 ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus more for topping
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
a dash salt (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons maple syrup
4 cups oat milk or other unsweetened plant milk
1 ounce bourbon per serving for those drinking - or as desired
a spoonful of nondairy whipped cream, such as So Delicious Organic Coco Whip
Sprinkle the nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt into a medium pot. Whisk in a small amount of plant milk, about a ¼ cup, until the spices are well incorporated and smooth. While whisking, add the rest of the milk and then the vanilla and maple syrup.
Turn on the heat to medium-high, whisking occasionally for about five minutes or until the milk has reached your desired temperature.
Pour into mugs and stir in the bourbon for those partaking. Top each mug with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg. Serve immediately.
