Ingredients
Just a few ingredients are needed for this drink recipe.
Blueberries : You can use fresh or thawed frozen blueberries.
Mint: We'll be using some mint leaves and 4 mint sprigs. Often, grocery stores will have packets of fresh mint that will work well.
Lime juice: Make sure you use fresh limes for this recipe rather than store-bought juice, which won't have the same fresh flavor.
Maple syrup: This sweetener works well in this recipe. Alternatives could be date syrup or coconut nectar, though I haven't tried them myself.
Sparkling water: I use plain sparkling water I make at home. You could use a complimentary store-bought flavor like lime or berry, or plain. This drink will have plenty of flavor with the plain.
Ice: Not a must but recommended. It balances the drink and can help hold the fruit and mint where you want it in each drink.
Bitters: This is optional. I like using bitters because they tend to balance the flavors well. Flavors that I find work well are floral, aromatic, or citrus.

Equipment
You will need the following kitchen tools to make this recipe:
- measuring cups and spoons
- large liquid measuring cup (4 cup) or bowl
- muddler, masher, or blender
- small knife and cutting board
- manual juicer
- herb scissors or kitchen shears (optional)
- chopstick or long spoon to stir (optional)
Instructions
Following are the simple steps to make these virgin mojitos:
Gather and wash your ingredients. Set aside a sprig of mint for each glass and the mint leaves.
Squeeze the limes to extract the juice and slice four rounds of lime.
In a large liquid measuring cup or other bowl with a spout, muddle/mash the blueberries with a few of the mint leaves. Then, stir in the lime juice and maple syrup.
Add ice to four glasses. Pour the blueberry mixture evenly among them.
Divide the remaining mint leaves and mint sprigs between the four glasses.
Add a slice of lime to each glass, then pour in the sparkling water. Garnish with a few blueberries in each glass. Sprinkle bitters into each glass, if using. Stir if desired.
Tip: Stirring each with a chopstick or long spoon will bring more color and flavor through the drink. It can also be fun to leave as is and get little bursts of flavor as you drink it. See which way you prefer.
Serving
This drink is best when served with the garnishes described, so I highly recommend including them. Topping with fresh blueberries provides visual appeal as well as flavor bursts as you drink through the glass. Serve stirred for more flavor and color throughout or not stirred for more flavor and color variation.
Storage
Storing is not recommended. Make this drink fresh right before serving.
FAQ
A mojito mocktail contains the same ingredients as a mojito cocktail except for the alcohol. The alcohol in a classic mojito cocktail is rum.
Mojito mocktails are sometimes called "nojitos" or "virgin mojitos" because they are made without alcohol.
Because this particular mojito is made with just real whole fruit (lime and blueberries), fresh mint leaves, sparkling water, bitters (considered helpful for digestion), and a small amount of maple syrup (refined sugar-free), it could be considered a healthy version and contains fiber and other nutrients. Mojitos made with refined sugars or other processed ingredients like artificial flavorings and alcohol are generally considered less healthy.
